There are accountants, doctors, zoo keepers (basically the kind of people your parents want to see you bring home) and then there are the jobs that are just plain bizarre. We all know what I mean, those career paths out there that we could never dream of. Things that we never imagined there would be a needs for, never mind someone willing to do these tasks. But it seems that I have stumbled across one such bizarre jah-oh-bee.

Welcome to the world of Pencil Sharpening.

This cut throat industry has amateurs in playgrounds around the world mocking their trade by using pencil sharpeners pfft. The insult.

Seriously though, it seems that getting pencils sharpened by hand is a need that some are willing to pay top dollah for (the shavings are actually bagged and returned to you with the pencil). Cue the entrance of New York's Artisanal Pencil Sharpening and them doing exactly this.

Lets rewind to Grade 1. Heike sitting on the carpet and saying that she wants to become a professional pencil sharpener. Don't think it would have gone down that well. But alas, this seems to be someones calling and following your dream is never easy. And for that I salute you, dear pencil sharpener.
