Ihsahn - progressive black metal accompanied with a saxophone
It's not often one discovers a band which completely turns a genre on its head, Ihsahn does just that. Ihsahn, best known for his role in the band Emperor, has every right to toy with the genre he helped define, and boy does he on his latest release 'After'.
It's one part KVLT Black Metal and another progressive rock not too dissimilar to Pink Floyd. You will be reminded of early Opeth, the sax from Pink Floyd's money and the progressive arrangements of the Porcupine Tree - with a brutal relentless pace. That's right, Ihsahn's album 'After' includes musical additions from saxophonist Jorgen Munkeby suggested to Isahn by Bugge Wesseltoft.
Ihsahn in an interview with NoiseCreep says "On the previous two records, I had a guest vocalist, and this time I wanted a form of instrumentalist that would contribute to the feel I was going for, and that's why I ended up using saxophone -- to keep it less personal and more open,"
If you're a fan of Opeth, Emperor, Satyricon or Pink Floyd get this fucking album!
