LOUIS VUITTON'S strategic move to cement itself as the official travel brand of the upper crust is exemplified by two of its popular campaigns: the LOUIS VUITTON City Guide 2009 and the LOUIS VUITTON Journeys.

LOUIS VUITTON's City Guide 2009 a tenth anniversary edition, takes you on a tour through Paris, Miami, New York, Tokyo and Mumbai, and or a total of 32 cities. LOUIS VUITTON's City Guide 2009:

European Cities, capitals and key destinations. Contemporary luxury hotels, secret hotels, gourmet restaurants, chef's bistros, artists' haunts, wine bars, organic markets, delicatessens, art galleries, design showrooms, museums, spas, fashion stores... For ten years, the Louis Vuitton City Guide has been selecting the places that best express a city's spirit. The 2009 edition explores 32 European cities in 9 booklets through some 7000 addresses....

The new, more user-friendly Louis Vuitton City Guide provides for the first time schematic city maps to help travellers find their bearings and identify the address of their choice more easily..

LOUIS VUITTON Journeys are auto-biographical journeys in various cities, captured by The Capolas, Sean Connery and Keith Richards. The Journeys begin as a photo journal, with images scattered across the screen. Clicking into each image takes one into another world narrated by one of Louis Vuitton's 'key influencers'. It's a simple user interface which much like discovering a city at first warrants frantic discoveries, and then as you feel more comfortable in your urban landscape you begin the deep dive, immersing yourself in the subtleties of a city...well this web site offers you this opportunity and more. After all you're guided by artists through some of the most intimate spaces of those cities they roamed, you're invited into the artist's lifeworld, for free...and you'll get a behind the scenes look at the "journeys" themselves to complete the experience.

Both campaigns organically flow toward you end up wanting a piece of the Louis Vuitton lifestyle, a part of me wants to wear one of their white button ups, a pair of kaki shorts and black leather sandals and take my signature series Vuitton bags to the lobby of my apartment, on my way to some far off land...Talita beside me an old film-camera and my notebook packed into a sling-over-shoulder Louis Vuitton carry bag.

I'm savouring the deliciously crass irony of fatuous luxury goods spruiker Louis Vuitton publishing a travel guide to a city with one of the largest slum populations in the world...
