Could this be the viral short for Neill Blomkamp's new film Elysium
With high expectations after his first blockbuster, District 9, Neill Blomkamp's latest work, claimed to be called Elysium might just be another handy-cam-action-hero. The video, which first appeared on Wired's iPad app, has received enough attention to warrant the call that it might in fact be the first of many snippets Blomkamp puts out to market his latest work.
The footage shows two frieds revisiting one of the friends latest finds, the 'Montauk Monster'. The Montauk Monster washed up on the shores of New York, and has been a mystery since. Whilst rather anticlimactic, the scene does give some clues as to the subject matter of the film, or as some skeptics suggest the subject matter of the next action game Blomkamp is involved with.
From SlashFilm.com
"Hopefully, this will be a bit unique, very much a reflection of me. It is absolutely another science fiction film, quite different from `District 9,’ but some of the blending of genres and the tone might be within the same realm."
Whatever the subject matter, this is a big break for Blomkamp, who received funding to produce and direct this film himself, without the constraints, or pressures associated to producing for a big movie house or from a man who favours twee dialogue for the masses over substantial films made to build critical mass.
Credit must go to Tim Robinson, who can be followed on @burningpoint for this find.
