DJ Paul Oakenfold South African Tour

No votes yet

The “King of Dance”, Paul Oakenfold, is heading to South Africa and any trance loving, foot loose, toe tapping dancer will be heading to see him perform.

Miller Genuine Draft and 5fm will be the sponsors for DJ Paul Oakenfold’s South African tour heading to Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Oakenfold has been touted as one of the world’s leading DJ/remixers by various outlets including CNN, Rolling Stone, BPM, Remix and more.

Oakenfold exploded onto the dance scene in 1985 while playing at Amnesia on the dance island of Ibiza. It was during his stint at Amnesia that Oakenfold introduced the world to his Balearic trance sound that he is best known for.

“Oakie [as he is foundly known by many] is my ultimate. He was the first dj to introduce the third deck and he was the beginning before Tiesto and Armin. It was him and PVD [Paul van Dyke] setting the mood and making the speed trance djs realize how things are done,” explains Thiran Moodley, a fan of Oakenfold’s music.

“When he went commercial on his first cd many people thought he sold out, especially when he released ‘Starry Eye Surprise’ with Shifty from Crazy Town, especially after they made the lame Butterfly song, but his second single of ‘Southern Sun’ blew me away as it surpassed ‘For an Angel’ in my eye.”

“Southern sun is up there now with Angel and Silence as something you can totally flip out to when you hear it. It makes every ounce of euphoria in your body awaken and explode into your system giving you that extra energy.”

His bio includes his 2007 Greatest Hits and Remixes album which has a selection of 20 songs which include “Starry Eyed Surprise” “Ready Steady Go,” and “Faster Kill Pussycat” featuring Brittany Murphy.

In addition, there are remixes galore of artists like Justin Timberlake, U2, Madonna, The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and Underworld and soundtrack pieces such as David Arnold’s James Bond Theme from the motion picture Die Another Day and Oakenfold’s “Dread Rock” from Matrix Reloaded.

He has been nominated twice for a Grammy for Best Electronic/Dance Album.

Oakenfold has also played in some unique venues across the world including the Great Wall of China.

The Tour will be supported by the best in local radio and club talent from around South Africa as well as 5FM DJs including Roger Goode, Erica Elle and DJ Fresh.
